Sad Boys - Sad Boys

Hey folks long time no see! My ripping capabilities were down and I was not motivated to fix it until my good friend Eriq asked me to rip this 7 inch. Thanks Eriq!

Sad Boys are a four piece 70's/80's style pop punk band from NYC, standing out for the milieu of the scene with their female singer and female guitarist. The sound of the band is like you put an Adverts, Buzzcocks, or Undertones record on and forgot to set the speed back to 33 from 45. The vocals most remind me of Gross National Product, a short-lived anarcho-punk band off of Profane Existence, and Eriq thinks the vocals very much in the style of 80's anarcho-punk. But lyrically Sad Boys are definitely more along the lines of Richard Hell-esque nihilism, complete with songs about hating kids and huffing glue, but with a sort of depressing cuteness. That pessimistic femme aesthetic is very visible in the artwork, which features a partially clothed punk with ice cream under a smiling sun, all done in bright neon colors. The album artwork alone, including the mini-illustrations that cover the lyrics sheet, makes this album worth buying. Download // More Sad Boys // Couldn't find a merch store online so you'll have to go see them, maybe at NY's Alright Fest
